ゾートロープとは、ギリシア語のzoe（生命）と trope（回転）を組み合わせた言葉である。連続性のある静止画を描いた紙が入った筒を回転させ、スリットからのぞくことで運動が現れる。はっきりと見えない運動は、生成と静止の間の灰色の運動である。それはどこか思い出すという行為に似ているように思える。今作のゾートロープでは、映像作品《ブタデスの娘》の少女の走る場面を用いた。
The word "zoetrope" comes from the Greek words for life (zoe) and turning (trope). It is a rotating cylinder with a strip of sequential images inside. When viewed through slits as the cylinder spins, the images appear to come to life, creating the illusion of motion. The indistinct motion that appears is a gray movement, existing between creation and stillness. It feels reminiscent of the act of remembering. For this zoetrope, I used the scene of a girl running from the video work "Daughter of Butades".
