ゾートロープとは、ギリシア語のzoe（生命）と trope（回転）を組み合わせた言葉である。連続性のある静止画を回転させ、それをスリットからのぞくと動画となってイメージに生命が吹き込まれる。運動自体が、介在する（回す）ことによってはじめて現れる、それはまるで記憶をたどる行為のようである。今作のイメージは、《ブタデスの娘》の一場面をゾートロープで表している。
The word "zoetrope" is made up of the Greek words for life (zoe) and turning (trope). When the viewer peers through the slits of the spinning wheel at a sequence of still images, they are transformed into a moving picture. Iwasaki explains that "Movement appears only when it is intervened (turned), which is like tracing one's own memory." In this work, Iwasaki used a zoetrope to create a scene from Daughter of Butades.
